STEEL Life
Architect-led DesignBuild + Developer
Residential Condo
San Francisco, California
The project involved renovating a nondescript 1970’s, two-bedroom condo with expansive 280º views of San Francisco, ocean to hills. The owner sought a modern pied-à-terre as a creative, convertible space where views and art took center stage. A full height 20’ wide custom curving steel wall with steel sliding doors allows the space to be easily reconfigured. Open steel shelving, niches and casework provide ample hidden storage and open display areas. The primary bathroom is accessed through a “walk-through” closet, while the soaking tub is positioned to access the views. Natural light floods in from skylights, and enlarged windows better frame the views. The project was completed as the architect’s DesignBuild model, with construction, steelwork and select furniture done by the architect’s team–furniture that complements the space and the owner’s own unique furniture collection. The owner says that now feels that he doesn’t just live with his art, but within it.
